Commercial kitchen canopy and extractor cleaning

Description

Canopy and extractor cleaning removes grease from the hood, baffles, fan and the duct run that serves a commercial kitchen in the UK. Book it when filters clog, the fan labours, or grease is dripping back onto the cookline. It is a fire and hygiene job, not a polish of the hood skin. Use the quote form or WhatsApp and say how the duct is reached.

Typical signs are heavy baffle filters, grease on the hood lip, a fan that no longer clears smoke, staining above the canopy, and drips onto plates or the cookline. Those point at the extract system, not at a surface wipe.

Who it is for

Kitchens that book this visit

Sites that fry or chargrill

Takeaways, pubs and restaurants where the canopy loads up faster than a two-week filter wash.

Landlords and managing agents

A shared riser or a tenant canopy where access panels and the fan location have to be agreed first.

Insurers’ requirements

Kitchens asked for evidence that the extract has been cleaned, which a hood wipe does not provide.

How it works

How the work is done

Isolate the area, lift the soil, rinse food-contact surfaces, then write down what was reached.

Isolate and look1

Isolate and look

Gas and power go off where we ask. We look at carbon, grease thickness and anything that cannot be reached, and we agree that list before chemical goes on.

Degrease and rinse2

Degrease and rinse

Grease and carbon are lifted, worked, and rinsed off the food-contact surfaces on the quote. Water does not run while food is still on the same bench.

Record and dry3

Record and dry

We write what was cleaned and what is left for an engineer. The kitchen plates again only when those surfaces are dry.

After the visit

How long it holds

The next visit

Heavy frying can reload a canopy in a few months. Light cooking can be closer to an annual clean. Grease depth and cooking style decide the return, which is why a single “once a year” line is often wrong for a chip shop.

What your team still does

Staff can wash baffle filters in a pot-wash if they are trained and the filters are cool. They should not climb into a canopy or open a roof fan. That is working at height, with moving parts and concentrated degreaser.

The wrong job

If you need the BESA-style TR19 record, post-clean grease readings and a certificate, use the TR19 page. If the hood is only greasy on the outside, that is part of a deep clean, not a duct clean.

Quote

What the price is based on

The quote

The price follows canopy length, filter count, fan position, duct length and whether access panels already exist. A ground-floor shop with a short duct is a different job from a basement kitchen with a roof fan.

Before we arrive

The cookline under the canopy must be off and cool enough to work over. Tell us where the fan isolator is. Clear a path for filters. Warn us about roof rules, asbestos notes and ceiling voids.

Before you plate again

Filters go back only when they are dry enough not to drip into food. Staff should wash or exchange filters on a short rota. The duct itself is not a weekly job.

FAQ

Questions on this visit

Straight answers for this service.

What is the difference between a canopy clean and a duct clean?

The canopy is the hood over the cookline, including the plenum and filters. The duct is the ductwork and fan that carry grease-laden air out. A quote should say which of those are included.

Can you clean the duct if there is no access panel?

Only as far as existing openings allow. If the run cannot be reached, we say so. Cutting panels is a metalworker’s job, then we clean.

How often should kitchen extract be cleaned?

It follows how hard the kitchen cooks. Heavy frying is often a few months. Light cooking can be closer to a year. A first clean of a duct that has never been opened takes longer than a maintenance clean on a system that already has access panels and a recent report.

What is the difference between a first extract clean and a maintenance clean?

A first clean is the thick grease, the missing panels, and the longer dwell. A maintenance clean is the repeat visit once panels exist and the last certificate is recent. Photos tell us which quote to write. Staff filter washes sit underneath both. They are not either visit.

Will you issue a certificate?

You get a written record and photos of what was cleaned. A TR19 grease-extract certificate, with the measurements that standard expects, is booked as TR19 extract cleaning.

Do you work overnight?

Yes when the kitchen cannot close in the day. Say the earliest start and when the first food order is, on the form or by WhatsApp.
