TR19 Extract Cleaning

TR19 extract cleaning is a grease-extract clean recorded to the BESA specification for UK kitchens that need more than a hood wipe. Book it when an insurer, a landlord or a fire assessment asks for the duct. Send the last report and when the kitchen can stop, by form or WhatsApp.

Commercial kitchen canopy and extractor cleaning

Description

TR19 extract cleaning is a kitchen grease-extract clean carried out and recorded against the BESA TR19 grease specification, for UK restaurants and production kitchens that need more than a hood wipe. Book it when an insurer, a landlord or a fire-risk assessment asks for TR19. Tell us the duct route on the quote form or WhatsApp before we agree a certificate.

People search TR19 after a grease drip, a failed insurance question, or a canopy that was “cleaned” with no access to the duct. The symptom is unmeasured grease in the extract, not a dull stainless face.

Who it is for

Kitchens that book this visit

Insured kitchens

Sites whose policy or fire risk assessment names TR19 for the grease extract.

Heavy grease menus

Charcoal, fryers and woks, where the interval is shorter than a low-risk servery.

Landlords of shared risers

Buildings where one duct serves a tenant and the clean has to be provable.

Included

Included, and what this visit is not

Included

  • Clean of the agreed grease extract system
  • Before-and-after evidence
  • A certificate only for the sections cleaned
  • A recommended interval based on the cooking type

Not included

  • No certificate for duct we could not access
  • We do not alter the fire damper or the building’s fire alarm
  • Non-grease ventilation is outside TR19 grease scope
  • Panel cutting is arranged before the clean, not hidden inside it

How it works

How the work is done

Isolate the area, lift the soil, rinse food-contact surfaces, then write down what was reached.

Isolate and look1

Isolate and look

Gas and power go off where we ask. We look at carbon, grease thickness and anything that cannot be reached, and we agree that list before chemical goes on.

Degrease and rinse2

Degrease and rinse

Grease and carbon are lifted, worked, and rinsed off the food-contact surfaces on the quote. Water does not run while food is still on the same bench.

Record and dry3

Record and dry

We write what was cleaned and what is left for an engineer. The kitchen plates again only when those surfaces are dry.

After the visit

How long it holds

The next visit

TR19 sets a minimum from how many hours the kitchen cooks. About 12 to 16 hours a day is a clean every three months. About 6 to 12 hours is every six months. About 2 to 6 hours is every twelve months. Those are minimums. A deposit check, the thickness or micron reading the specification asks for, shortens the date if grease is already past the limit. An insurer can demand a shorter interval than the standard. Follow the shorter date.

What your team still does

Filter washing by staff does not meet TR19 for the duct and fan. It is still worth doing. It is not the certificate.

The wrong job

If nobody has asked for TR19 and you only need the hood degreased, the canopy page is the right visit. Buying the words “TR19” for a filter wash helps no one.

What the price is based on

The quote

The price follows system size, access, working height and whether the visit is in or out of hours. A certificate is not a flat fee added to a filter wash.

Before we arrive

Send any previous report, a sketch or photos of the fan, and the access rules for the roof or riser. The kitchen under the canopy needs to be off.

Before you plate again

Keep the certificate with the fire risk assessment. Wash filters on the short rota. Book the next clean from the interval in the report, and sooner if the menu gets heavier.

FAQ

Questions on this visit

Straight answers for this service.

What does TR19 cover?

TR19 Grease is the BESA specification for cleaning kitchen grease extract systems: canopy, ductwork and fan, with a record of the result. It is not a general kitchen deep-clean standard.

Can you certify the whole system if one bend is closed?

No. Unreached sections are listed as not cleaned. A certificate that ignores them is the problem insurers are trying to avoid.

How is TR19 different from a normal canopy clean?

A canopy clean can stop at the hood and filters. TR19 is the grease extract system, with the evidence and access the specification expects.

Who decides how often TR19 is due?

Hours of cooking set the minimum. About 12 to 16 hours a day is every three months. About 6 to 12 hours is every six months. About 2 to 6 hours is every twelve months. A deposit check shortens that if the grease thickness is already over the limit. If the insurer names a shorter date, follow the insurer.

What happens if the extract is missed?

Grease left in the duct is a fire load. Many commercial policies expect the extract to be cleaned and recorded. A certificate that skips a closed bend, or a hood wipe described as a duct clean, does not meet that. We list every section we could not reach. Send the policy wording with the enquiry if it names TR19.

What should we send for a quote?

The last report if you have it, photos of the canopy and fan, and when the kitchen can stop. Use the form or WhatsApp.
